Vegetable juices for health and beauty
There are various types of vegetable juices, therefore it is good to know which ones contain ingredients favourable to our health and beauty. Experts recommend a daily intake of 5 portions of vegetables and fruit of varied colours – red, yellow and green. These provide our bodies with the optimal amount of vitamins and minerals.

Carrot juice
Carrot juice is the richest source of natural beta-carotene, which is transformed by our bodies into vitamin A, playing an important role in skin regeneration. Moreover, vitamin A is an antioxidant, which protects the skin from premature ageing. Carrot juice also contains vitamin E, essential if you want to have a good complexion. Vitamin E is also an important antioxidant.
Attention: Too much vitamin A can cause damage to the liver, where it’s stored. Experts recommend two to three glasses of carrot juice a week.
Tomato juice
Pasteurised tomato juice contains likopin, which is released from plant cells at high temperatures. Likopin fulfils an antioxidant role in our bodies, and so positively influences our skin’s condition. We shouldn’t drink it cold, since this makes it difficult for our bodies to absorb the optimal amount of likopin; absorption is much easier when we combine the juice with some kind of fat.

Sauerkraut juice
Sauerkraut provides our bodies with vitamin C, which our bodies cannot store. Vitamin C is a very important antioxidant and helps our bodies create collagen. It insures the cells are healthy and the tissue maintains its elasticity and durability. Thanks to the vitamin our skin is firm and tight. Vitamin C helps prevent the formation of cellulite, it also supports fat burning in our bodies.
Beet juice
Beets have cleansing properties for our body. The betanine content makes it easier to get rid of disease forming bacteria or viruses, before they can cause harm to our bodies. Betanine in beet juice is a component of proteins, which helps reduce excess fat.
Tips on buying and storing vegetable juices
- Buy juices rich in vitamin C. You can be sure there’s a lot of this vitamin when the juice comes in dark bottles or cartons. Vitamin C is sensitive to light. In a clear bottle, the vitamin C level drops by half.
- When buying vegetable juice, you should read the label and find out if the juice is raw. Raw juice doesn’t go through such complicated processing, so it contains more vitamins and minerals.
- Store juices in cold places, in the fridge, or cellar. This way you protect the vitamins that are sensitive to light or temperature. Opened containers can be stored in the fridge up to three days.
