The principles of healthy eating habits, a healthy diet – Slow Food
The followers of Slow Food prove that slower dining means better quality, more careful preparation, a deep well of pleasures which gets lost when we speed up our lives, but it’s also a healthy diet. An example of this is maturation, which give wines and cognacs better flavours, this also occurs with many kinds of beer, cheese and some varieties of meat.
Highly processed consumer foods do not supply all the necessary vitamins, minerals or the other valuable ingredients, so essential for the process of life. They are a source of dangerous saturated fats and of sugar though. Fast foods consumed on the go, with a lack of exercise is a guarantee of becoming overweight and ill. The antidote for the obesity epidemic is ……vegetables.
Principles of a healthy lifestyle

Of course, in order to start a Slow Food revolution some time needs to be devoted to preparing meals and their consumption in peace and quiet. For some this alone will be difficult, i.e. to find some time to cook each day. But to begin you can start on your day off.
It is good to give slow food a try and to consciously observe the benefits that flow from that, and there are many benefits that follow. Cooking can become a magical ritual and not just a common daily grind.
Slow Food – ecological lifestyle
The idea of slowing down is propagated by many smaller and bigger associations and organizations all over the world. Their philosophy touches each sphere of human life. The Slow Movement is also about waste segregation, the rational use of electricity, buying ‘eco friendly’ products, alternative schooling methods (slow school), fair trade and many more. All of that allows us to live more consciously. The movement’s followers try to convince us that this way of life is possible. It’s not about abandoning everything and moving into the forest to grow your own vegetables. It’s enough to find the right pace for you and to try to live sensibly.
Here are a few tips for those who wish to follow in the Slow Food movement’s steps, that can easily be applied in your everyday life:
- Instead of running to work, walk fast. The heart works more evenly then and you don’t endanger yourself to sudden rushes of the pulse. It is enough to leave home a few minutes earlier.
- Don’t do everything at once. Prioritizing helps you avoid stress and you burn less energy.
- Celebrate your meals. Eating together and talking develops relationships. And this is truly pleasant.
- Eat at a table; chew each bite carefully. Eating over a newspaper, a computer, in front of the TV, on the go, in the car, standing up, in fast food restaurants, or in the street is destructive.
- Enjoy every bite, the flavour of the food and its aroma. You will stimulate your alimentary canal to produce digestive enzymes, which speeds up digestion.
- Instead of eating ready-made dishes, reach for half-prepared meals; prepare the meals with as little processed ingredients as possible. Choose fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruit and also bake cakes. Imagine your own satisfaction when your household members indulge themselves in the fine aromas and flavours.
- Replace cold cuts with your own cooked or roast joints of meat
