Colourful prevention
Peppers are the richest source of vitamin C among vegetables after parsley leaves. 200 grams of peppers meets the daily requirement of adults for this vitamin. Next to vitamin C, peppers have a back up of vitamin A supply, which constitutes deadly cocktail for free radicals. This excellent duet prevents cholesterol deposits thus protects against sclerosis and heart disease. It also prevents cancer, cataract and arthritis.

Once upon a time in America
Peppers is considered to be the oldest cultivated vegetable in America. Their seeds were found dating back 5000 years. Peppers come from Peru. Next to corn, beans and the pumpkin it was one of the basic pre-Columbus vegetables. They were brought to Europe by Columbus’s physician. From the 16th century it spread throughout Europe to find its place in the Balkan and Mediterranean cuisine. What’s more it is a national vegetable and spice of the Hungarians.

One of the hot pepper variety due to the sound emitted when shaken is called “Cascabel” – “the ringing of bells”.
