Health-giving benefits of consuming olives
The American weekly magazine „Time” has placed olives in a group of the healthiest foods in the world. Olives, along with olive oil, are beneficial for health and famous for their high in monounsaturated acidy fats, that can lower blood cholesterol. Olives protect the heart and blood vessels from arteriosclerosis; they are the basic component of Mediterranean diet, which is a role model for healthy nutrition.
One olive tree can produce about 1 litre of olive oil. It may happen that in a year of a good harvest there can be up to 2 litres of this precious liquid from one olive tree.

Olive tree is an ever green tree or a shrub reaching between 4-12 meters in height. The trunk of an olive tree is usually grey with small leathery leaves. It bears fruit in full every 2 years – after the harvest it has to rest and regain strength to be able to bear wonderful fruit again. Without hesitation the trees can be called the witnesses of old times, since they can live up to a thousand years!
Green and black
There are many kinds of olives, they can be green, black, small or big, with different taste and various fat content. Marinated in delicate brine they have a colour of dark wine and a slightly fruity flavour. They are irreplaceable as an aperitif and also as a component of various salads.
11 olives
The ancient Greeks discovered olives were good for cooking puposes. They say you have to eat 11 olives to taste their real flavour.
Popularity of olives has not lessened over the years, on the contrary – all over the world this small fruit is gaining more and more fans, we use only the superlatives when speaking of the olive oil.
