Research has proven that people inhabiting the Mediterranean region are among the healthiest in the world. This geographical region is combining at least twenty regions. Each with their own culture, customs and culinary traditions.
What is common for all of them is frequent use of olive oil, a love for wine, eating a lot of vegetables and fruit and active lifestyle. Combined with great climatic conditions, we have a phenomenon of Mediterranean health.
Milk and wineThe next very important ingredient is milk and dairy products – cheeses or yoghurt, so popular in the Mediterranean. And wine! Almost every meal in Italy, France or Greece is accompanied by wine of all sorts.
Daily, weekly or monthly?
Vegetables and fruit, cereals, breads, pasta and potatoes, nuts, with a little bit of wine, milk and dairy products should be in your daily diet. Physical activity is a must. Poultry, eggs and seafood can be taken less often, once a week is enough, but the locals to the Mediterranean region eat red meats only once a month.
The Mediterranean diet will provide the body with all the necessary vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, carbohydrates, proteins and a little bit of fats help protect the heart, and prolong life.
