How many calories in bread

Bread is a product with a rather high nutritious and energetic value; therefore it’s at the base of the food pyramid for children. Most of all it contains healthy complex carbohydrates that are an energy source for us; they also contain B group vitamins necessary for the work of nerve cells, as well as folic acid, zinc, magnesium, calcium, some proteins and importantly fibre.

Breads – nutritious values
As far as nutritious values are concerned rye bread is the most nutritious – wheat flour baked with rye contains lots of vitamins and mineral salts as well as fibre – present in the grains’ outer shells. White breads have little nutritious value and are more caloric than other breads. Breads with the whole grains of oily seeds: e.g. sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, linen, poppy, corn or cumin are an additional source of vitamins, mineral salts and unsaturated fatty acids.
The part that breads play in healthy diet
The fibre in dark bread cleanses the intestines of remaining foods, makes peristalsis easier and absorbs water, giving us a feeling of satiety for a couple hours. It slows the appetite and helps us to maintain a slim figure. Besides that it helps lower the blood’s cholesterol concentration, since it limits its absorption from the digestive system. The contraindications for eating dark bread are: chronic gastric ulcer conditions, chronic duodenal ulcer conditions, as well as liver and intestinal conditions: because it produces acids and can cause flatulence. Cereals contain glutens; so people suffering from celiac conditions cannot eat ordinary bread. It also concerns those suffering from phenylketonuria who don’t tolerate natural proteins. White bread is delicate and light. It’s recommended for children, people suffering from irritable colons, chronic gastric ulcer conditions or pancreas conditions. The rule is: don’t eat too much bread and you won’t gain weight.
Recommended storing methods
Bread is best kept when stored in wooden or plastic containers, or wrapped in linen cloth. Foil is not good for bread because the bread gets wet and mouldy. It’s best to put an apple or a potato into the container – the bread will keep freshness longer. Bread can be frozen, even for 3 months. In order to maintain its aroma, it should be tightly packed and not kept in the fridge or it’ll become stale.
