Beverages – nutritious values

Water is the basic element where living processes take place. It’s a solvent for many vitamins and minerals and is essential for the proper functioning of the digestion process, it serves to transport many foods and aid the metabolic processes, it also allows our bodies to maintain the same temperature, and it’s part of many systemic liquids – i.e. it protects our spinal cord, eyeballs and our brain.

Beverages and healthy diet Sweetened drinks such as coca-cola practically speaking do not have any nutritious value, containing some flavouring, a lot of sugar and preservatives. We should exclude them from our daily diets.

Vegetable and fruit juices are low in calories and they’re really satisfying. They can be a replacement for a little meal, e.g. tomato juice, or mixed vegetable juice. They include various vitamins, elements and fibre necessary for the body. We should be more careful about fruit juices, since they can contain artificial sweeteners or plenty of simple fructose sugar, which in the biochemical transformation within the body, is turned into glucose and in this form reaches our blood. If we drink fruit juices, they should be made of fresh fruit or from a carton containing 100% juice (not the nectar or drink), but we should also take into account that, although they contain vitamins, fibre and mineral salts, they are more calorific than vegetable juices.

We should remember that the appropriate amount of valuable beverage, such as mineral water in 1.5 to 2 litres daily and has the purpose of raising our concentration levels, making us feel better, it also improves our skin’s condition and body’s efficiency.
