Water – an essential ingredient of a healthy diet
Although water does not supply our body with energy, a grown person cannot survive without it for more than a couple of days. It is at the base of the food pyramid. There is a reason it is called „the source of life”.

The source of water
The basic source of water for our body, covering the 62% of our daily need, are beverages. Fruit and vegetables are second. Not many of us know that besides liquids, also bread and cereals, and even meat and its products are a source of water.
Since the human body cannot store it, water must constantly be supplied in order to maintain proper body functions. In normal conditions, optimal daily intake of liquids is estimated at 2-2,5 litres. This amount increases with hot weather or extensive physical exercise, We should drink small portions, in little sips. Excessive supply of liquids in a short time can prevent proper absorption. Consequently, a lot of the liquid is quickly excreted.
Mineral water can be replaced with vegetable juices or natural fruit juices. Excessive consumption of sweetened carbonated drinks or sweetened juices it is not recommended. Strong coffee and tea can further increase the level of dehydration.
The significance of water to the human body:
- All processes taking place in the body require water
- It is the base of any diet, especially weight-loss diets
- A lack or insufficient supply of water leads to dehydration of the body, can cause insomnia, irritation, loss of appetite and physical strength.
