“Cyprus cabbage”
Cauliflower comes from Cyprus and at first was called “Cyprus cabbage”. It’s known for 2500 years. It was already cultivated in ancient Egypt and Persia. Next, its cultivation was introduced in Italy for it to spread throughout Europe as of the 16th century. In contemporary cusines it is used primarily in everything from soups to vegetable dishes. It is cooked whole or served raw in salads.
What is cauliflower?
Cauliflower is a natural object enabling to explain the concept of fractals. They were introduced into mathematics during the 70’s by a French scientist from Yale University, Benoit Mandelbort. The characteristic quality of a fractal is its self-similarity – a part of the set is an image of the whole. And so each rosette constitutes an image of the entire cauliflower. Fractals found an application in such various branches as medicine, hydrology and finance.
