BMI (Body Mass Index) Calculator

Calculate your BMI!
Why calculate BMI?It allows to evaluate the risk of acquiring diseases related to overweight such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, heart attack or ischemic heart disease.
It allows to diagnose excess or deficiency of fat tissue in the body
How is BMI calculated?height squared (in meters) this is height (m) x height (m)
divide the result by weight (in kilograms)
Calculate your BMIAccording to WHO (World Health Organisation) report:
- Optimal weight for women is 21 BMI and 23 for men ,
- Normal body mass, when BMI is between 19 and 25,
- Overweight - a BMI of over 25,
- Obesity - the BMI is over 30
Important note: People with BMI = 25-29 , should be given special analysis and attention, it is important to assess whether their obesity is a result of real body fat (e.g. With a help of anthropometric callipers or nuclear magnetic resonance), or is it a result of well developed muscle mass (e.g. athletes) or is constituted genetically - differently for women and men. In such cases WHR index should be calculated.
Which groups are difficult to determine whether their BMI constitutes health risk?
- Pregnant women
- Athletes and people with well developed muscle tissue
- Children (at growth stage)
- Elderly people (difficulty in measuring the exact height)
How should BMI be interpreted? The higher BMI value the higher risk of acquiring diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, ischemic heart disease.
Too low index may lead to anorexia.
According to doctors people with the proper BMI live longer, and people with improper index are at risk.
